Writing about public health and other social issues.

When I was a child, my brother gave me the book “1001 Questions and Answers” to shut me up. I asked a lot of questions as a kid, interrupting my older siblings during dinner and while they watched TV. I cried if they didn’t give me a thorough answer. I was… annoying. As a professional journalist, I no longer cry and I try not to interrupt, but I continue to love asking questions.

I am an award-winning independent journalist and the topic leader for freelancing at the Association of Health Care Journalists, where I write blog posts, tip sheets and market guides and produce and host webinars. My byline has appeared in a range of media outlets, including CQ Researcher, AARP, Undark, Next Avenue, Medical Economics, Healthline, Today.com, NPR, The New York Times and NBCNews.com, where I am a contributing writer.

I started my journalism career in television, as the economics reporter and then the assistant managing editor of a business news program on ESPN. After that show went bust, I moved to public radio to become NPR’s economics and business correspondent and, several years later, the first senior editor and senior producer of the radio program “Science Friday.” After a while, I missed being on the air and returned to NPR as a freelancer and grant-funded special projects reporter. I branched out into print and online work and eventually left radio behind.
